Flexible lighting and sound systems by Northern Light at Stewart's Melville College in Edinburgh

A £3.7 million revamp of Stewart's Meville College saw Northern Light provide compact and flexible sound and lighting systems for the brand new auditorium.

Built as a poor school in the 1850s, Stewart's Melville College is today one of Edinburgh's leading independent boys' schools.  During the 2007 refurbishment, Northern Light were contacted to provide the specialist installation of sound and lighting systems.  As pupils would be learning from and using the new systems, simplicity and flexibility were a crucial part of the finished installation.

Northern Light provided 42 luminaires and simple dimming and control in the shape of Zero 88 Betapak dimmers. Socket boxes were manufactured and installed within the auditorium lighting rig and in the control room. Additionally, Northern Light installed a simple - but extremely functional - sound system where, unusually, every function was able to be contained within just one sound rack. Cabling infrastructure, fitting of speakers and amplifiers and the provision of a sound desk and a variety of microphones completed the project.
