A regeneration for the Castlemilk area of Glasgow resulted in an Northern Light installation which utilises cutting edge technology to run three tower blocks into a weather beacon for the 21st century.
Working for Glasgow Housing Association, Northern Light collaborated with Collective Architecture to develop the design concept and create a striking installation which has a minimal impact on the environment.
Northern Light installed LED lighting technology in the northerly stairwells of each of the three, 20-storey, high rises and put in place a control system which utilises internet RSS feeds to create a visual representation of weather conditions - outlook, wind direction and temperature - on each tower block.
The project resulted in Northern Light and Collective Architecture becoming finalists in the 2010 Lighting Design Awards.
