It has come to the attention of Northern Light's board that the current "Name that man" competition - accessible via the company's website - may be slightly discriminatory.
Lois Ferguson, Marketing Manager, said: "It wasn't until the competition started running and some customers pointed out that the character could just as easily be a woman that it actually occurred to me that this might be the case.
"I had just assumed - judging on physique alone - that our character was a man. But they're right; it may in fact be a woman, albeit with unfortunately broad shoulders."
At this time, Northern Light would like to announce that the competition has been amended to "Name that person" and invite anyone interested in the chance to win a case of champagne to enter a suggestion for a name via the company's website, www.northernlight.co.uk
Colin Cuthbert, Managing Director, concluded: "I would like to apologise for our bold assumption and assure all our customers and suppliers that we have a robust sexual discrimination policy and will not tolerate sexual discrimination in any way. I would also confirm that we are not biased against women with broad shoulders."
