Northern Light completes technical fit-out for the new Theatre, Film & Television Building at York University

Opening in October 2010, the University of York's new campus expansion at Heslington East sees the capacity of the University more than doubling. Northern Light were appointed to carry out sound and lighting system design, installation and commissioning for the main and studio theatres within the new building, as well as the complete technical fit out of the entire venue to incorporate data networking, video tie-lines and full cabling infrastructure for all media systems.

This new building brings together the related disciplines of theatre and television to an extent that has never before been equalled in the UK. The project encompassed a 230 seat scenic stage theatre, a black box theatre and two television studios. These four spaces are complimented with rehearsal rooms, administrative and teaching facilities and a high speed data network to support the simultaneous use of digital media by students and staff for non-linear editing.

Northern Light completes full electrical installation at the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds

The refurbishment of the Theatre Royal aimed to update and upgrade the functionality of the whole Grade 1 listed theatre, whilst maintaining and preserving the venue's Georgian roots.  Northern Light were contracted to carry out the full electrical installation for the upgrade and overhaul of the theatre.

The contract incorporated the usual specialist sound and lighting electrical work, as well as provision of all power, lighting, emergency lighting, voice evacuation, security systems and structured networks.

The whole project was an exercise in blending the old with the modern and Northern Light worked closely with the National Trust, English Heritage, the Theatres Trust, the theatre consultant, the architect, the electrical consultant and the main contractor to ensure that all work was sympathetic to the building, whilst still reaching today's regulations and standards.
